Overview

The purpose of the Futures Committee is to determine what facilities and resources will be needed in the near-term and long-term future of the church. There is significant growth occurring in and around Bastrop.  In concert with the FUMC mission we must reach out to new residents and invite them into the church.  To support the church mission the Futures Committee is in the process of identifying all current activities within the church assuming the number of activities occurring within the church creates both resource and facility needs.  The committee has recently surveyed the congregation to identify: 1) what draws people to FUMC, 2) what retains them, and 3) the core values of FUMC.  The committee plans to communicate the responses of the survey to the congregation and then ask each committee within the church to determine 1) what activities they intend to make more robust and 2) what additional activities they plan in the future to better serve the members of the church and to increase their outreach efforts.  Based upon the response of this survey the Futures Committee can determine what facilities and resources are needed to support the efforts of the various committees thus setting up the need for a capital fund drive.

Calendar

• Committee meeting the 4th Thursday of every month, Fellowship Hall, Parlor room
• March ’08 – complete initial space & activity surveys, assess results of congregational survey, determine if a short-term capital fund drive is necessary
• April ’08 – conduct the future activities and facility need surveys
• May ’08 – assess the results of the future need survey
• June ’08 – determine the requirements of a long-term capital fund drive
• July ’08 – Lunch a short-term capital fund drive if needed, begin planning phase of a long-term capital fund drive.
