What?: Bake Sale

Where?: Bastrop Wal-Mart        

When?: Sunday Aug. 3rd from 11:30a.m. – 3:30p.m.

We’ll load up our gear right after Sunday School and arrive at Wal-Mart by 11:30a.m.   Our purpose is to raise funds for our upcoming mission trip & youth activities.  We also want to let the good folks of Bastrop know that the Youth of First United Methodist Church are working together with Christ to transform the world.  Start baking now and put your baked goods in the freezer until Aug. 3rd.  Anyone wishing to make a donation or contribute baked goods can bring them to the Youth Lodge on Sunday, Aug. 3rd before Sunday School, or drop them off at Wal-Mart after church.

Swim Party!!

Where?: Bastrop State Park

When?: Tues. Aug. 5th - meet @ Youth Lodge @ 11:00 a.m.

What to Bring?: Side Dish, Swim & Casual Clothes

Ask everyone you know to come and join us for our

Swim Party at the park.  The pool holds up to 300 people, so there will be plenty of room.  We’ve invited youth groups from surrounding towns, so there will be new friends to meet and some fun competitions after our pool time.  Families & congregation are welcomed to join us at any time.  The dinner line will open around 5:00 p.m.  Youth may depart with their families, or return with the group to Youth Lodge around 7:00 p.m.

Vacation Bible School

V.B.S. will be held Mon. Aug. 11 – Wed. Aug. 13 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

The theme for this year is God’s Big Back Yard and youth who wish to help will be assigned as group leaders.  If you love to work with children and would like to help, contact Cynthia Engstrom @ (979) 733-4027 so that you can be matched with a great group of children who want to have fun and get to know God better.

Youth Fellowship Mission Project

Fun Days & Schlitterbahn & San Antonio

Where: Mission Project @ Eagle Pass

Dates: Thurs. Aug. 14th – Sunday Aug. 17th, 2008

Cost to participate: A servant’s heart and some pocket cash for food and extras when we spend the day at San Antonio & Schlitterbahn.  Youth Ministry will pay for the cost of the mission project, meals while we’re gone, entry fee to Schlitterbahn.

We’re planning to leave Thursday, Aug. 14th immediately after we help take down the V.B.S. props.  We’ll travel to New Braunfels and spend some fun time there @ Schlitterbahn before moving on to Eagle Pass in the Evening.  Friday & Saturday will be work days filled with renovations & repair work to homes still damaged from the tornado that devastated the community last year.   We’ll have folks there to help us with the special skills we need to paint, caulk, dry wall, and do some light construction work.  Sunday, we’ll attend worship services in Eagle Pass and then return home by way of­­­­­ San Antonio where we’ll spend the afternoon and return to 1st U.M.C. in the evening. 

Youth Lodge & Hut Renovation Day

When an entire community comes together, amazing things happen in a very short time.  The youth have been working on interior painting and clean-up projects at the Youth Lodge and Hut over the summer.  We invite the Whole Congregation to join us on Sun. Aug. 24th and Aug. 31st as we paint the exterior of these two buildings so that they will be ready for our Fall Kick-Off and Open House.  We’ll start @ 1:00 and paint until we’re done, or the sun goes down.  We want the houses and yards to be ready by Promotion Sunday on Sept. 7th, 20008.            COME JOIN US!!!!!
