The Women's Christian Fellowship Circle has been serving First Methodist Church as one its principal organizations for many decades. Its main focus has been together in Christian fellowship to work for our home church in ways that benefit the building, grounds, and the congregation and the Bastrop community. Once a month the women get together to plan their upcoming activities, have programs and enjoy some refreshments and fellowship. They get to know each other better and welcome newcomers to their group.

Over the years the women have supported the Family Crisis Center, Advocacy Center, and the Literacy Volunteers in the community. They have supported the Godly Play program, Vacation Bible School, a Bell Concert, planned meals for shut-ins, and bought many of the items we use every week in the church and Fellowship Hall. Their annual garage Sale (Blessings and Bargains) as well as other fund-raisers over the years have helped pay for these programs and others.

One of the most cherished items the women have been pleased to provide the church, is a particular set of dishes. For all the years up to the time of World War II, whenever there was a church dinner, members brought their own dishes from home. But sometime during the 40s, the Elkins Five and Ten Cents store offered some beautiful dishes for sale that caught the eyes of the Circle ladies. These dishes had a lovely floral pattern. Little by little, the ladies purchased these dishes individually, and brought them to the church pantry until there were enough for about 30 place settings, which are still used for special occasions. They are very precious to the church. Later the Circle purchased about 300 place setting of Corell dishes for ordinary usage.

The meetings are held every second Wednesday at 10:00, usually in the church Fellowship Hall, but sometimes in homes. In June the members go to lunch and then have a summer break for July and August. They come back in September with renewed energy for the planning of the fall garage sale, and other projects.
