COMMUNITY CONCERNS COMMITTEE
Recent Activities
This committee was very busy the past month. In
addition to our usual monthly visits, we celebrated the birthday of Arlene Parks
on Friday, September 11 and Bonnie Cline on Sunday, September 13. Our
members who participate in each facility visited are dedicated and 7 or 8 are
present every month. The residents enjoy the attention and joy we can
bring them by singing some of their favorite hymns and devotion. Some of
us attended the dedication and ribbon cutting of the newest Bastrop Lost Pines
Nursing home on September 17.
Norma Woehl is in our prayers and thoughts as she fell on September 19
and has a fractured hip. We will keep in touch with A.J. and the family to
offer help in any way we can. She is always a loving, caring, dependable
worker in our church, and on this committee. May God bless her with a
speedy recovery.

Community Concerns Committee
Overview
God
has created all of us. We are individuals loved through and by Jesus
Christ, and were encouraged to be sensitive to nurturing human
beings.
This
group, Community Concerns Ministry Committee, provides a way of
accomplishing this service. We visit Assisted Living home,
Argent Court, every month on the second Sunday providing a worship
service and communion. Every month we also have the same at
Silver Pines Nursing home on the second Tuesday. On the third
Thursday of every month we go to Bastrop Nursing home. We
visit residents monthly at Tower Nursing in Smithville on the second
Wednesday. This same day we visit homebound persons unable to
drive, usually living alone, and have some assistance from home
health agencies.
Some
of our members make phone calls, deliver Upper Room, help feed
residents in nursing home, send cards to in-town and out-of-town
people, some who were long time residents of Bastrop and moved to be
closer to families. We also deliver meals to shut-ins.
We
welcome anyone to join us for any of these activities, just a few
hours per month would be rewarding to everyone. The people we
see are so grateful to know we use a few hours of our time to render
a warm handshake, smile, conversation, and perhaps a hug.
